چکیده

Using Bäcklund transformation the spectral property of the KP-I lump solution is completely analyzed. It is proved that the lump solution is nondegenerate and has Morse index one. As a consequence we show that it is orbitally stable.

Multiple branches of travelling waves for the Gross Pitaevskii equation

Explicit solitary waves are known to exist for the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili-I (KP-I) equation in dimension 2. We first address numerically the question of their Morse index. The results confirm that the lump solitary wave has Morse index one and that the other explicit solutions correspond to excited states. We then turn to the 2D Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equation which in some long wave regime conv...

MORSE INDEX AND UNIQUENESS FOR POSITIVE SOLUTIONS OF RADIAL p-LAPLACE EQUATIONS

We study the positive radial solutions of the Dirichlet problem ∆pu+f(u) = 0 in B, u > 0 in B, u = 0 on ∂B, where ∆pu = div(|∇u|p−2∇u), p > 1, is the p-Laplace operator, B is the unit ball in Rn centered at the origin and f is a C1 function. We are able to get results on the spectrum of the linearized operator in a suitable weighted space of radial functions and derive from this information on ...

Orbital stability of ground state solutions of coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations

In this paper orbital stability of solutions of weakly coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations is studied. It is proved that ground state solutions-scalar or vector ones-are orbitally stable, while bound states with Morse index strictly greater than one are not stable. Moreover, an instability result for large exponent in the nonlinearity is presented.

Morse Theory for Riemannian Geodesics without Nondegeneracy Assumptions

Let f ∈ C(M,R) be a functional defined on a Hilbert manifold M. It is well known that if f is a Morse functional (i.e. every critical point of f is nondegenerate) and f satisfies the so called Palais–Smale condition, the Morse relations hold. More precisely, let x ∈ M be a critical point of f , and m(x, f) denote the Morse index at x (i.e. the maximal dimension of the subspaces of TxM where the...
